Make strategy useful

That lengthy, well-researched strategy document isn’t going to be read all the way through. It’s certainly not going to be internalized by the people on the front lines delivering to customers. Put another way: A big strategy doc doesn’t have product-market fit. Teams need simple, memorable ways to make decisions that align with organizational direction, and Annual_Strategy_v75_Dave Edit_final final.pptx is giving them the exact opposite thing.

Strategy exists to help people make better decisions faster. To help them do the right thing (26). But most strategic output ends up slowing down decision-making. Leaders spend months crafting these documents, only to find they have minimal impact on day-to-day operations. Team members can’t recall key strategic principles in the moment they need them most—in the room, with each other, working through what to do next.
