Purpose is a guiding “why” that informs every “what” and “how”
Purpose is the “why” that drives meaningful action and connects individuals, teams, and organizations to shared goals. It serves as a compass for work, giving clarity, resilience, and alignment, even in uncertain times.
At an organizational level, purpose drives . . . everything, focusing on big, transformative goals that improve talent density, accelerate decision-making, and provide stable long-term direction.
For teams, purpose gives focus to shorter-term, bounded goals. It supports better, faster decisions. It clarifies their unique role within the organization. It provides cohesion and direction.
At an individual/personal level, purpose can work as an internal compass, connecting personal motivations (and day-to-day tasks) with broader goals and ideally the purpose of the team and the broader organization. When we take the time to craft and internalize a personal purpose, it affords resilience, focus, and a sense of fulfillment. It also helps us know when to move on from a team or organization to a new one.
